the Oliver Twins

First I want to send congratulations on a great job on the reunion. What an event. We enjoyed it immensely.

We had mixed emotions about attending our 50th high school class reunion. We hadn't kept in touch with classmates for many years, but for some reason we wanted to see the people we had gone to high school with.

Leaving husbands behind we drove to Mackinaw and once more became the Oliver twins.

The Grand Hotel was over whelming and we worried about getting luggage to and fro.
Everything went like clockwork and we enjoyed our beautiful decorated room. Classmates managing the registration got us signed in, t-shirts bought, badges on and pictures taken.

This was the first opportunity to see how fifty years can change appearances. We would not have recognized people if it were not for the badges. Everyone was so friendly-seemed to be an air of glad we are here and glad you are here. Sorry that the boat ride had to be canceled because
of weather.

Enjoyed the carriage ride, the kitchen tour and walking with friends through the gardens. One cannot say enough about the meals served. They were just stupendous! Renewed acquaintances with old friends, people we were not close to in high school, and significant others. Met lawyers, soon to be authors and a jewelry artist. Touched by classmate Dick Evans recounting a visit with my father and ham radios.

Brought back to reality by Sylvia Clark recounting memories of a wild Volkswagen ride down a residential street. Felt
great seeing Carrie and sharing hugs and Allen doing his best to provide an exciting life for them. Marveled at Eleanor Passage David beautiful jewelry she has made and hope her trip to Italy in the fall is just great for her. And of course seeing Mr. Arsen again. The high point of the trip was seeing the footage of our first trip to Mackinaw, the school pictures in the gym, the “W” formed on the football field by the band, (We were in the band.) and the craziness of some of our students.

The Reunion Committee all deserve a great round of applause for all the work done. Sheldon once again was a great speaker even if he got the flying pig back! Our only regret was not greeting and talking to everyone. This reunion showed we have survived and became a great
group of individuals living life to the fullest. What a blessing to touch for awhile those people who shared our years of our lives so long ago.

Thank you Class of 1956!
Nancy Oliver Nugent and Margery Oliver Vaughen
