About Me!
Kerrie Cook Class of 1964

I will tell you that my mother is originally from India, born in Bombay to English subjects.  Grandma's side of the family had been there as a part of the East India Company since the late 1600's. My mother met my Dad during  W.W.II, she was a secretary for the American forces (designed the CBI shoulder patch for the American Forces) and led a very interesting life during the last days of the RAJ. She even saw Ghandi a few times, and her sister worked for awhile for Jinah (the president of Pakistan) after the partitioning of India. I was made in India, carried across the Atlantic and delivered in Murphy, NC  So I went back to India and Pakistan a few years ago to retrace my mothers footsteps as she is not like any of my friends mothers. I had some very interesting experiences on the trip, went on our own, not a tour.  I met all sorts of interesting people had a real adventure, complete with one very close call due to the activities of some militant Kashmiries in the city where the GOLDEN TEMPLE is, Amritsa.  I was very close to the areas of Pakistan where current events claim front page of our daily papers. I saw a lot of Afghani’s in the "hill country", the foothills of the Himalayas in a city where my mother attended boarding school many years prior. The school is still in operation, same name, same furniture but new teachers and mostly Indian children now rather than mostly English.  Although there are a few families that never left India or Pakistan and were never bothered in the rioting, my gram stayed quite a long time before immigrating to England. My grandpa was a career man in the British Army, joining up when he was 14 years old, served under Lord KItchner in Kartoom (Egypt) and several other horrid battle places, many glorified by Hollywood. He is buried in Karachi (India) Pakistan, and I did visit his lonely grave, along with many other relatives on my Grandma's side.  I also saw a lot of the rest of India, when one goes that far, one must see all that they can as the chance of return may never occur again....my Mother would love to return once again, and I have that goal, if things will settle down just a bit.  She is also going to be 80 this summer so time is of the essence.

NUFF of that.  Wake up, and get on with your work.
