Major Announcement; Squirrel Nut Chews or "Squirrels"... peanut flavored chews. Some of you remember them as Squirrel Nut Zippers. They are actually the same but sold under a different name in different parts of the county... I am not sure why.
Unfortunately the company that makes Nut Chews and Nut Zippers recently went out of business. There is a possibility that another candy company will buy the brand and restart operations but for now they are no longer available.
Please read on for news of Reunions, old and new.

and Don writes...early May, 2004 There is no doubt that this medium has been a gold mine for those of us who are anxiously looking for old friends. I have been blessed many times over through the Classmates message board and on through the evolution of this group. I don't want to rank any of the my old friends that I have found. I have found some of my truest friends that we just lost track of. Most of my friends I lost as I went into the military or began a married life with children. The reunions have been utterly fantastic. I have also witnessed others finding old friends that they have not seen or talked to in years and they magically both appeared in this group.
We had one girl who found the best friend of her recently deceased father.
I have also made new wonderful friends like Glen, Glenn, Oliver, Sherry, Phil and John and I could go on but space is a premium.
There are the new friends that I haven't ever seen but I still consider them friends (I am not exactly sure how I am considered by them but....) like The Other Mike, Dru, Jean and now Cari. There are many more that I haven't named but it is not because they are cared for any less it is because I am OLD and have the memory of a doorknob. We can discuss anything that we want and when the dust settles there still stands all the friends with all the friendly smiles.
Anyone who has not attended one of the various Thingies do not know what they are missing. We have had "mini-thingies" in Florida when only 2 or 3 would show up and they were still rewarding. It is fun to talk about Mrs. Thorton driving bus #37, Pete & Chris slicing bologna at Steve's Market, Gabe scooping out burger at Gabriel's, the big cow at Richardson's, the unicycle riders behind the mall, the weigh station on Dixie Hwy, all the elementary schools that have closed, the stickie things at the ends of loaves of bread instead of twistie ties and all those things from our youth.
Or we can talk about our young adult life (or the current life in Cari's case) and the military, weddings (my first one was in Thessalon, Ont and the 2nd was in Dallas), birth of kids and more. We can talk about the present... Bush and Bush and Kerry and Clinton (and that guy she married) and Bob Hope and Anna Nicole Smith. Above it all is the companionship. See everyone in October!!!! The Big Florida Thinghy is over until next year, October 2004.

Contact Don Bova and Glen Bradsher about this years 2003 Reunion in October. And don’t forget to contact Coni and Char or Marsha Benedict below about the Reunion in Waterford, just months away. August 23rd, 2003

WTHS class of 1973. 30-year reunion coming up August 16, 2003. We will be at the Hilton Suites in Auburn Hills. Planning committee are Julie Ogg, Mary Poulos, Carol O'Donoghue, Kim (Everett) Mergler, Connie Spak, Kiron Kathari, and Allen Wallis. For information, write to: wths1973reunion@hotmail.com

following is a few bits and pieces from the 2002 Reunion in Florida. Don’t forget there is another planned for October 2003, in Daytona, see Don and Glen for more of those details. Another is planned for October 2003, which is just around the corner, so help get the word out.
Its either high tide or the guy taking the photo is to heavy for this pier!
The 500 of you that were not at the 1st Annual Waterfordian Florida Get Together Thingie will probably grow weary of us kicking around this dead horse (not to be confused with hayrides) but there is still a lot to say.
First....kudos to Brandy of Inlet Harbor Restaurant (I thought her name was Brenda....I need to read name badges). She was a terribly nice and very efficient waitress. I think that everyone of us that was at the thingie should write the Inlet Harbor a letter expressing our gratitude for her wonderful service. Click Here to send a Thank you to Brandy! http://inletharbor.com/email.html
Glen Briggs.....I had a great time talking to you. Next time I get going and don't shut up like that just stuff a napkin in my mouth. I did enjoy your wit, intelligence and stories. By the way, Lisa will NOT forget your promise!!!
Dave & Jan...Good seeing you. I trust that you will enjoy the portrait that you will have of me. Don't be silent on Yahoo.
Jackie....If it were decreed that we could only have one Captain you would be top on the list. You and Rick (even though he likes the Packers) are a great couple and a lot of fun.... even though we saw no stretch marks.
Oliver....What can I say. It was so great to finally meet you and your wife. Thanks for helping Lisa with the camera. All of your wit and wisdom that I have been reading the past few years do not hold a candle to you in person. I look forward to our next meeting.
Dick.....You were so much fun...although I am not going to be on the "lift Dick Walsh off the floor" committee any longer. I will be forward Lauraine's address to you. Hope your run to Disney was tons of fun. Book your Oct 4 & 5, 2003 now.
Pat...What a hoot. Love you, Lisa loves you and everyone else there loved you. We will not have a thingie without you in attendence. Thanks much for the gift!
Dave and Steph....You guys are terrific. Having an old ELEIA pal there was the best. I can't tell you how much it meant to see you. By the way, I still only have your Indiana address... email me your Florida one.
John & Coni...I'm sure glad that I was there to tell you two who you were. You guys were so funny telling each other that you would have never recongnized each other.
Glenn and Mike...Let me know when the Super Bowl gang is meeting.
Ann and Ardyth...DON'T MISS THE NEXT ONE....OCTOBER 4 OR 5 2003
I know I didn't mention to you all but you all made the thingie a REAL thingie! Don Bova WTHS 1966
The October 6th, 2002 Reunion was a great success and Don Bova and Glen Bradsher will be presenting it again in 2003. Read over the following to see what you may have missed and remember to stay intouch so you can be informed of the details for the next Reunion for all schools all years, this time next year.

OK! Mark your calendars. The 3rd Annual Waterford All School, All Year in Florida Reunion will be held Sunday October 3, 2004. It will be at the Inlet Harbor Restaurant in Ponce Inlet, Florida. It will start at noon. Food and beverage will be their regular menu. There is wonderful seating outdoors along the Halifax River however, if the weather is, how do I say it, crappy, there is an inside section with plenty of seating. Remember this is for WTHS, WKHS and WMHS and for all graduating years.(of course, if a Clarkston or West Bloomfield person or two comes along they are also welcome)

Looking for accomodations: Try these “I just priced out a 1 bedroom suite at the "Cove of Ormond Beach" for 3 nights starting Oct 4 and was quoted a price of $57 per night. If I were coming to the Daytona area this is where I would stay. They have a website http://islandone.com/ When I checked this morning they had 3 of these rooms available. They also have studio units at a lower rate and 2 bdrm units at a higher rate. I am not an expert on handicap accommadations, but there are no stairs to navigate. All rooms have oceanview balconies. I believe this is the best value in the Daytona area. Online reservations are not available-the tollfree number is 1 888 475 2626.
The "Bahama House" is another quality resort. It does have handicap rooms, but the rate is about 2 times that of the "Cove". The price includes a nightly happy hour and a continental breakfast. This would be my second pick in selecting accommadations. The phone number is 1- 386-248-2001” Want to search for more? http://www.hotelsbest.com/dab.htm http://www.daytonavisit.com/mot-info.htm http://www.123-accommodations.com Don & Glen’s Daze-Inn

Daytona Beach is synonymous with racing. But did you know we are the summer home of the London Symphony Orchestra? A quaint mix of culture and cars populates the ecclectic Daytona area, which plays host to a wide variety of endevours, from amberjack fishing to zoological parks and everything in between. Known as a golfer's paradise, there are more courses within a twenty minute drive than you can shake a dog leg at, and Bahama House is at the center of it all! Q&A’s Ponce Inlet is a suburb of of Daytona. There are plenty of rooms, places to eat and visit. Glen and I picked October 6th, 2002 as the date because that is the lowest room rate of the year, which means no special events. There is plenty to do here, always! Florida does not have casinos but they do have what is called "cruises to nowhere". This cruises are gambling excursions to International waters.
Daytona has an International Airport but it is usually cheaper to fly into Orlando or Jacksonville. I just bought a ticket for my son (MSU) pronounced Ma-Soo and he is flying Toledo to Daytona. It meant he had an extra half hour drive at his end and we had convenience at our end. I check Detroit to Florida airfares almost daily and if I see something terrific I will be sure to post it.
My wife works at one of the better hotels in the Daytona area and I just told her today to inquire about rooms. http://www.daytonabahamahouse.com If you type in Daytona and do a yahoo search, there is plenty of info available. There are plenty of Museums here. Two of my favorites are the Hooters 7 Wonders of the World Museum and the Miss Hawaiin Tropics Museum of modern arts. Glen Bradshere
Go to http://www.yahoo.com and do a search of Daytona and the surrounding suburbs, you will be overwhelmed with info, attractions and other things to do. We would appreciate receiving any more detailed information from your 'searchs' so we can post what you find which will aid others.. Don Bova and Glen Bradshrer
