Dick Walsh WTHS 1962
On this past Monday March 23rd, 2003 my youngest Son became PFC Ethan Mathew Walsh in the Virginia Army National Guard. After boot he will attend Officer Candidate School (he holds a degree in Criminal Law Enforcement) and has decided to do his share.
As a 24 year Vet I have the greatest pride that my Son will be in uniform. As a Father, I guess I will just have to spend a bit more time each night on the old prayer bones begging the Lord for his devine touch on my Sons shoulder as well as all our fine young men and women. I grieve for our fallen WKHS hero, Kevin Nave, WKHS 1985 and often wonder why, as the words of the old Kingston Trio Song "Ruben James" go, "The worst of men must fight and the best of men must die" Dick Walsh (62)

My first job was as a carrier for the Pontiac Press. I used to Pick up my papers at the corner of Huron and Tilden and deliver down Huron to Telegraph, and everything between Telegraph and Elizebeth lake road (my favorite stop there was a bar called "The Pub") I used to get a free coke evry day and a dollar tip on Thursday when I collected (.40 Cents). I would turn left on ELizebeth Lake and go 1 block to West End and do all of West End. I think I had something like 67 Customers and would make like $15.00 a week. Used to have to take the bus down to Pontiac and pay my bill at the Press Building each Saturday morning.

After paying my bill I would go to a hobby shop just across Huron from the Press Building and buy a Plastic model. I don't remember the name of the place any longer. Then I would go to Kresges and have a Chocolate Sunday complete with whipped cream with a cherry on top, (.26 Cents) catch the bus and go back out to the Stop at Community National Bank on Tilden. Man it was great. Dick Walsh '62
