Don Bova Class of WTHS 1966
First Jobs. My very first paying job (and I use the term "paying" very loosely) was a Detroit News/Times paper route.
It seemed like it covered 6 counties and I had 12 daily and 60 Sunday customers....8 cents for daily and 20 cents for Sunday or 65 cents for both. Second job was caddying at Orchard Lake. 3rd at Elizabeth Lake Pharmacy sweeping and cleaning. That lasted two weeks. 4th at World Wide Home Furnishings. 5'10' and 125 pounds helping to deliver sofa beds and console TVs...2 months there. The summer of '65 was at a dairy farm between Mayville and Silerwood....learn just enough to know that I NEVER wanted to be a farmer. Then came 18 months at the Red Barn, one day at Kresge's at Miracle Mile, one day at Mr. Steak and 10 years at Pontiac Motors' engine plant. Then came 19 months in the Army. They knew I was from Southeastern Michigan so they figured I had the experience to be in the Infantry. Sheesh, all of that wore me out. At least I made enough money that the Other Mike never had to find me locked in the trunk at the drive-in. More to follow....I promise. Don Bova WTHS 1966 I suppose that it wasn't an "official" job but in the early 70s I would help out at an auction on Dixie Hwy that was just north of Williams Lk Rd. I owned a van then and for a few bucks I would deliver things that walk in customers bought during the week or at an actual auction. I would also go pick up big items that the auction had bought. The kicker was that I had to work the auction every Saturday night. It would start at 7:30 and would go sometimes until 1:00 or 2:00 in the morning. Sure did meet some great people there......almost like a Yahoo group!!! Don Bova WTHS 1966
