Originally the following were extracted from Don Bova’s and Glen Bradsher’s personal little black books. They have subsequently found a way for others to accept some of the blame for the original” Hot Spots”.
None of the young ladies would admit to knowing anything about these “Hot Spots”. They claim they were spots the guys would find and make up stories about and pass around school.
Best Parking Spots
You mentioned the rest area on I75! That place has been raided so many times by undercover officers getting the guys that wore white slacks and shirts and there left hand partially in the front pant pocket plus had no dog to walk back in the woods!!!! Not sure how it was when you went there but you don't take your GIRL friend there now. There was a guy named Lance that lived on S Roslyn That went up there a lot! Other favorite spots were: Kettering Hill, the woods off Pontiac Lake r d and Hospital, The blueberry patch on Pontiac Lake rd, The end of Marion St. by the Mall, The woods at the end of Alliance St. off Scott Lake road which went al the way to Telegraph, The Bell Phone station by the Mall, The old farm which was across from Miejers on Pontiac Lake rd. The Fish Hatchery you named plus the other side of the Hatchery on the south side off Ross drive. The Boat landing on Maceday Lake. The whole Pontiac Lake rec area, The Occ Parking lot off Hospital rd. and I am sure I left some more out??? And No Ladies I did not find these places with all my Lady friends just in the course of doing my job. The Tn Kid
I remember one young guy who shall remain nameless, that on his first or second solo date in the family car took his date to the airport to watch the planes landing and taking off. The only problem was he didn't know, until airport security informed him(them) that there is no parking in front of the control tower. Well, there weren't any lights on and it looked like paved parking with a really good view. I guess they call it the "apron", where they park planes for loading and unloading etc.

It is a place that I have not seen in way too many years than I would like to admit (probably around 30 at least) but I used to love Hawthorne Park. As a kid we would meet some friends that lived in Pontiac and our families would have a picnic there (although my dad says that all of us kids together at one time was NO PICNIC!). We have some great 8mm movies taken at that park. Even though we lived and loved ELEIA it was a super change to go to Hawthorne Park. We also went to a park on Oakland Lake to swim but I can't remember it's name or exactly where it was. I think that the first time that I dared to jump from a moving swing.....at least that is the first one I remember. Maybe I hit my head other times and forgot!!! Hawthorne Park is out of sight but not out of mind. Don adds.... Believe it or not the parking lot was a great place to....well, uh, park. In the NW corner next to the concrete wall was a great place and no one ever bothered me.....Not that I was able to test it all that often. Don lookmomiamflying Bova WTHS 1966

For family entertainment on Sunday afternoon, we used to go to the airport and park along the fence by Airport Rd. and watch the planes take off and land. Across Airport Rd from the airport was a farmer's plowed field.

The Pontiac airport and the blue lights was always a big hit with the dates.

Don, A couple of other places were; the field at the end of Marion street (behind the mall), the field off Walton (where Mason junior high is now) where we would park up on the hill over looking the lake and watch submarine races. By the way, does anyone remember a little restaurant on Williams lake road on the curve by Gale road? I have told people there was a restaurant there and they think I am crazy. (ok Phil, I might be, but there still was a restaurant on that curve:):)

We have, over time, talked about our favorite parking places and I think that during this advent of winter and the need for warmth it should be brought up again. Maybe Officer Phil can tell us the "other side" of parking places. Like a gazillion others the fish hatchery was big place. I also liked the rest area on I-75 in Holly. There was a path between Riviera/Elmhurst and Lakeside that was good. Lastly was the top of the hill in the parking area of the Elizabeth Lake Church of Christ overlooking the sand pits. These were all great places to stop and TALK about how to bring peace to the world. Don steamywindows Bova WTHS 1966
There used to be a little road out near Dodge Park that they were building a subdivision on. Many of us used to go there in the evenings with our girl friends to hold night study courses. It was very out of the way and was right on the water so we could observe tidal changes and other natural phenomenal wonders. There was only one road in and one road out. One night the the Police just set up a road block and about 30 of us were given tickets for illegal parking. Not to mention the great embarrassment as we stood there lined up waiting with licenses in hand while the very affable and smiling officer took our names and the names of our study partners. I do not remember the Officers name but I will bet inside he was totally coming apart laughing at our discomfort. He was not a heck of a lot older then we were. Oh the memories just keep washing in like a flood tide..... You might leave it to Mr. Bova to open the subject of parking spots, but seeing as he did I shall add a couple of my favorites to the list. Probably #1 was of all places right behind old St. Bens School, I can never remember seeing a Cop (Oops sorry Phil) car. My other best spot was out in Keego near the fence of the West Bloomfield Football field, the only problem there was I could ot be seen in my Waterford Varsity Jacket. There used to be an area off Cass Lake Road that was a new housing development that was also popular. I would just go there to have quiet time and contemplate on the teachings of our fine teachers, never would the thought occur to me become romantically inclined with my lady friends.

OK! and I have to add mine, which was at the other end of Island Park Drive, up on Mosquito Hill as we used to call it. There were times the mosquito’s were particularly bothersome. As the road started to end, you would go down a steep incline and then zoom up to the top and put on your brakes quickly or you would zoom off into the little lake or pond. Especially tricky in the winter with snow on the ground. Got stuck at the bottom of the incline once and had to get a tow truck. Charged to my parents account and begged them not to tell my parents. Hey! why didn't you try behind Beechum's on Dixie, or on the old bike trails (Great Lake Crossing) in Gingellville? You missed some good ones. Where do today's kids go now? jean59 oops, this reminded me of another one- actually a good idea. One guy used his parents garage (lived near Cranbrook). They just thought he was home, lol. jean 59
